About the original work
"In This Corner of the World" is one of Kono Fumiyo's masterpieces.
Set in wartime Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture, this is a tender, powerful, poignant and moving story about a woman named Suzu struggling to live her life.
This time, this timeless masterpiece, which has been adapted into two films, a live-action drama, and a musical but will likely remain forever in various forms, will be expressed in a new form as a reading play.

About the story
The protagonist, Urano Suzu, is suddenly proposed to by Hojo Shusaku, a civil servant working at the naval court martial in the naval port city of Kure, and is unable to decide whether to accept the proposal or not. During the war, as rationed goods gradually dwindle, Suzu gets by on her daily life, using her ingenuity to liven up the dinner table, remake clothes, and occasionally paint her favorite pictures. In March 1945, Kure was subjected to air raids by so many carrier-based planes that the sky was filled with them, and the things that Suzu treasured were gradually lost.
And then the summer of 1945 arrives.
This is the record of a woman who lived her life to the fullest in "a corner of this world."
