The hugely popular manga series, which depicts the lives of the Shinsengumi who lived through the turbulent Bakumatsu period and has sold over 3 million copies, is finally getting a live-action adaptation. Yuki Yamada will star as Toshizo Hijikata, and the cast will also include Nobuyuki Suzuki as Isami Kondo and Kanata Hosoda as Soji Okita, bringing together a lineup of leading actors. A collaboration between TBS, U-NEXT, and THE SEVEN will bring the story to life as an unprecedentedly large-scale "Japanese sword action entertainment." In his youth, Hijikata Toshizo, driven by a relentless pursuit of strength, repeatedly challenged dojos without a clear purpose. It was during this time that he challenged Kondo Isami of the Tennen Rishin-ryu Shieikan dojo and suffered a defeat. Realizing his own weakness, Hijikata knocked on the door of the Shieikan dojo in order to become stronger. This is a requiem depicting the friendship, conviction, and fierce youth of these passionate men who would later become the Shinsengumi, shaking Kyoto during the turbulent Bakumatsu period!!
